McNeese State University Burton Residential Hall
- Lake Charles, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the new Burton Residential Hall at McNeese State University. The original facility sustained severe damage during Hurricane Katrina and was subsequently demolished. The new residence hall, rebuilt in 2013, consists of a three-story facility with 43 units, designed to accommodate 150 private beds. Units feature both two- and four-bedroom suites with in-suite restrooms, offering students comfort and privacy in a modern residential environment.
Logistical Constraints:The project required a complete rebuild from the ground up while maintaining alignment with university housing standards and hurricane resilience. System design had to balance efficiency, safety, and durability, ensuring long-term performance. Coordination across multiple disciplines was critical to integrate utilities, fire protection, and HVAC systems within the compact residential footprint.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The rebuilt Burton Residential Hall provides safe, comfortable, and modern student housing, restoring vital campus living capacity lost after Katrina. The facility supports McNeese State University’s mission to offer a welcoming residential experience, with enhanced privacy, security, and convenience for its student community.
Advanced Technology :Key systems include high-efficiency HVAC solutions, LED lighting upgrades, and integrated fire protection systems designed to meet current codes and ensure occupant safety. The result is a resilient, energy-efficient residence hall built to serve generations of students.
