Claiborne Office Building
- Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:The Claiborne Office Building project involved the design of an 8-floor high-rise office building featuring energy-saving HVAC systems and daylighting technology utilizing light shelves. ADG’s scope included chilled water systems supplied from the Capital Complex District Cooling Plant, incorporating variable chilled water flow technology to provide efficient cooling for distributed air handling units with variable speed controls. The project required seamless integration into the existing Louisiana State Capitol Complex, which consists of 14 separate buildings, while ensuring compatibility with planned future expansions totaling over 1.5 million square feet.
Logistical Constraints:The building’s connection to the existing District Cooling Plant required precise load calculations, careful system coordination, and infrastructure routing within an active government complex. Additionally, provisions for future capacity expansion had to be incorporated into the plant design to accommodate upcoming buildings without disrupting current operations. The use of daylighting and light shelves required close collaboration with architectural teams to optimize natural light penetration while maintaining energy efficiency.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The client commended ADG for delivering a high-performance, sustainable building system that reduces operational costs while ensuring reliable comfort for occupants. The HVAC and daylighting strategies significantly reduce energy consumption, contributing to the state’s sustainability goals.
Advanced Technology :ADG engineered variable chilled water flow systems and integrated them into the District Cooling Plant with advanced controls for efficiency and flexibility. The plant was designed for scalable expansion, enabling the addition of three future buildings without the need for major infrastructure overhauls.
