Ernest N. Morial Convention Center
- New Orleans, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. served as the lead MEP/FP design firm for the expansion of the 2 million square foot Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, one of the largest convention facilities in the nation. The project included the new construction of Hall A, featuring a 60,000-square-foot ballroom—the largest in the region—along with a 10,000-square-foot Conference Center and a 4,700-square-foot Lounge. A major component of the project was the HVAC chiller plant upgrade, which included the installation of a 12,000-ton chiller plant with eight (8) new chillers and the seamless integration of Phase I, II, and III systems using variable primary/secondary flow optimization.
Logistical Constraints:The challenge involved designing and integrating large-scale HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems within an active, heavily used convention center while minimizing operational disruptions. ADG’s engineering team coordinated complex system tie-ins and upgrades to ensure that the largest ballroom and support facilities could operate with maximum efficiency, reliability, and comfort for large crowds.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The expansion transformed the convention center into a premier destination for large-scale events, with a world-class ballroom, advanced conference amenities, and state-of-the-art lounge space. The upgraded chiller plant and integrated systems significantly improved energy efficiency, operational flexibility, and long-term resilience.
Advanced Technology :By leveraging variable primary/secondary flow optimization, high-capacity chiller technology, and modernized MEP/FP systems, ADG delivered a project that supports high-performance event hosting while ensuring long-term operational reliability for one of New Orleans’ most important facilities.
