K&B Machine Manufacturing Facility

Technical Hurdles:The K&B Machine Manufacturing Facility project involved the design of a 189,510-square-foot manufacturing facility with a 15,400-square-foot office building, requiring highly specialized MEP/FP systems. ADG’s mechanical scope included plumbing, HVAC ventilation, and heating for the manufacturing area, along with advanced chiller-based air conditioning systems for offices and the machine shop. The challenge was to design a system capable of handling over 400 tons of cooling capacity while ensuring comfort in office spaces and maintaining industrial-grade ventilation for shop operations.
Logistical Constraints:Integrating complex mechanical and electrical systems in a large-scale manufacturing environment required meticulous sequencing. The electrical design included two 4000-ampere, 480-volt services operating in an alternating distribution pattern, ensuring that the failure of one service would impact only half the facility. Provisions were also made for a future third 4000-ampere service to support expansion. Coordinating the installation of high-volume, low-speed fans, LED lighting achieving 60+ footcandles, and a fully networked fire detection/alarm system required precise planning and collaboration among multiple trades.

Advanced Technology : ADG incorporated state-of-the-art mechanical systems including chillers, pumps, variable volume air handling units, air rotation units, and compressed air stations. Electrical systems were designed with generator connection boxes for both main services, LED illumination throughout, and networked fire detection and alarm systems for comprehensive safety.
