Lafayette Animal Shelter
- Lafayette, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center is a 21,400-square-foot facility designed for the Lafayette Consolidated Government to provide comprehensive adoption, medical, and care services for animals. The building includes dual reception areas for adoptions, consultation offices, exam and operation rooms, isolation kennels, specialized cat and dog display areas, and a large education center. ADG’s challenge was to design specialized MEP/FP systems to support a wide variety of functions, including clinical procedures, housing for animals, and large-volume kennel spaces requiring enhanced ventilation and sanitation systems.
Logistical Constraints:The kennel and dormitory spaces required dedicated outside air systems to provide fresh, conditioned air for animals while offsetting exhaust from specialized ventilation systems. Plumbing design had to accommodate sanitary sewer, vent systems, grease waste, domestic water piping, and a medical gas system for procedure rooms. Coordinating VRF/VRV HVAC systems with the unique layout of kennels, operating spaces, and public adoption areas required precise planning to balance comfort, air quality, and infection control.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The Lafayette Consolidated Government praised ADG for delivering a state-of-the-art animal shelter that improves animal welfare, enhances adoption experiences, and ensures a clean, safe environment for staff and visitors. The facility’s modern systems support both animal health and community education programs.
Advanced Technology :ADG implemented VRF/VRV HVAC systems for energy-efficient climate control, dedicated outside air systems for kennel areas, and a fully integrated sprinkler and plumbing system with medical gas infrastructure for surgical procedures. These systems were engineered to maintain strict air quality and hygiene standards across all facility zones.
