LSU Rural Life Museum

- Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. provided mechanical and plumbing engineering design for a 17,600-square-foot addition to the LSU Rural Life Museum. The expansion included Exhibit and Gallery spaces, a Movie area, and offices, requiring careful coordination of HVAC, sprinkler, plumbing, and general ventilation systems. The design also integrated with existing exhibit rooms, where maintaining proper temperature, humidity, and ventilation was essential to preserving sensitive artifacts and display environments.

Logistical Constraints:The project required seamless connection to existing building systems while ensuring minimal disruption to the museum’s ongoing operations. Site plumbing design involved extending domestic water and sewer services to the new addition and tying into the existing campus utilities. System layouts had to accommodate both modern code requirements and the museum’s architectural character, ensuring that infrastructure did not interfere with exhibit design or visitor experience.

Client Satisfaction & Benefits

The addition enhances the LSU Rural Life Museum’s ability to expand its exhibits, host events, and provide educational experiences while ensuring reliable building performance. The upgraded infrastructure supports visitor comfort, artifact preservation, and operational efficiency, reinforcing the museum’s role as a premier cultural and educational destination in Baton Rouge.

Advanced Technology :Key systems include high-efficiency HVAC units for galleries and theaters, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, and fire protection systems designed for occupant safety and artifact protection. Together, these ensure that the new facility addition is both functional and sustainable, supporting long-term community and cultural use.
