Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for National Oilwell Varco’s 137,670-square-foot shop and 18,655-square-foot office building in St. Martin Parish. The design included HVAC, sprinkler, plumbing, shop ventilation, and heating systems to meet the facility’s heavy industrial requirements. Shop plumbing systems incorporated domestic water piping, natural gas piping, and compressed air piping, while site utilities extended domestic water, sewer, and gas services to connect with existing infrastructure.
Logistical Constraints:The project required seamless coordination of industrial shop systems with office environments, ensuring energy efficiency, safety, and operational reliability. ADG designed a facility-wide electrical system to support both the shop and office, including fire alarm, communication systems, and dedicated power distribution. To reduce long-term operational costs, the facility was engineered to be serviced by the local utility at a single point of entry, minimizing metering and utility charges.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The completed project delivered a state-of-the-art industrial facility that supports National Oilwell Varco’s operational efficiency while reducing overhead costs. The combination of advanced shop systems, efficient office environments, and centralized utility design created a functional, safe, and cost-optimized facility for long-term use.
Advanced Technology :Key design features included fluorescent T-8 lighting in office areas, a combination of fluorescent and metal-halide high-bay fixtures in the shop, a dedicated fire pump with water storage tank, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. These integrated solutions enhanced both safety and productivity, ensuring the facility met the rigorous demands of industrial operations.
