Shell Geismar Wellness Center / Cafeteria
- Gonzales, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) design services for Shell’s new Wellness Center and Cafeteria at its Geismar facility. The project required highly reliable building systems to support both health and fitness programs as well as daily food service operations. The scope included HVAC systems for fitness areas, locker rooms, and dining spaces, commercial-grade kitchen ventilation and plumbing, and electrical systems to serve both wellness and cafeteria functions.
Logistical Constraints:The facility had to be designed for continuous use within an industrial campus environment, requiring seamless integration with existing site utilities. Special design considerations were given to air quality, humidity control, and food safety requirements in the cafeteria, along with durable systems to handle high occupancy in wellness and dining spaces. Coordination with Shell’s strict safety and reliability standards was a critical part of the project delivery.
Client Satisfaction & Benefits
The new Wellness Center and Cafeteria provides Shell employees with modernized health, fitness, and dining amenities, contributing to improved workforce wellness and productivity. By combining these two functions under one roof, the project enhances Shell’s employee experience while maintaining compliance with industrial safety and performance standards.
Advanced Technology :The design incorporated high-efficiency HVAC and kitchen exhaust systems, commercial-grade plumbing for food service, and optimized electrical distribution with emergency power support. Fire protection systems were engineered to safeguard both high-occupancy wellness areas and commercial kitchen operations, ensuring long-term safety, reliability, and resiliency.
