SOWELA Calcasieu Building
- Lake Charles, Louisiana
Technical Hurdles:In the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, Associated Design Group, Inc. delivered full Mechanical and Electrical systems design for the complete replacement of the Calcasieu Building at SOWELA Technical Community College. The original facility, heavily damaged by the storm, was demolished to its foundation and replaced with a 37,000-square-foot higher education building. The new structure integrates state-of-the-art classrooms, specialized labs, administrative offices, and support areas, all designed to current codes and modern standards of higher education.
Logistical Constraints:Rebuilding on the same footprint required close coordination to ensure that the new systems would not only replace but also enhance the resiliency and functionality of the facility. Mechanical systems were engineered for energy efficiency and occupant comfort, while electrical infrastructure was designed for reliability, safety, and flexibility. The project demonstrates ADG’s ability to restore critical educational facilities quickly and effectively while meeting strict regulatory and performance requirements.
