Tulane Bruff Commons

Tulane Bruff Commons

- New Orleans, Louisiana

Technical Hurdles:Associated Design Group, Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for the renovation and expansion of Tulane University’s Bruff Commons, a central dining and student life facility on campus. The project included upgrades to kitchen exhaust and ventilation systems, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and modernized electrical distribution to support heavy food service equipment loads. Plumbing design addressed extensive kitchen utility requirements, including grease waste systems, hot water distribution, and backflow prevention.

Logistical Constraints:The project required phased construction to allow continued use of the facility during the academic year. ADG coordinated closely with university operations to minimize downtime and disruptions. Integration of new mechanical and electrical systems into an existing structure presented challenges in space allocation, routing, and energy efficiency, all of which were addressed through innovative engineering solutions.
